Statement on the Coronavirus

As you know, the welfare of our students and staff is our top priority at Bell. With the developing situation regarding the Coronavirus, we wanted to inform you of the precautions we are putting in place to ensure our students and staff continue to enjoy a safe and supportive environment during their time at Bell.

With recent developments in Europe, the risk has been declared as "moderate" - a level that simply allows the government to plan for all eventualities. We are taking the situation very seriously and recognise the current spread of the Coronavirus appears to be escalating. We want to assure you that we are monitoring the situation closely.

The China Travel Service Association (CTSA) announced the suspension of business travel, group tours and package trips for the present time, and in line with the guidance issued by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office, all our staff have halted plans to travel to affected areas until further notice.

We are also aware that airline providers are restricting travel for individuals from these areas. We will be reaching out to affected students or their agents to reassess their plans and support them in deferring their studies at Bell.

The UK Government has introduced advanced monitoring at airports with direct flights from China. A team of public health experts has been established in Heathrow to support anyone travelling in from China who feels unwell. Public health authorities in England have also introduced new measures, which allow health authorities to keep individuals in quarantine if public health professionals believe they may be at risk of spreading the virus.

At Bell, we are taking extra precautionary steps to ensure our staff and students are made aware of the virus, its symptoms and how it spreads. Face masks are available at all sites and we have increased availability of anti-bacterial hand sanitising gels too. We will continue providing recommended guidance for avoiding exposure to any potential infection, including the Coronavirus. Our young learner centre, Bell St Albans, also has an onsite nurse available to support students.

We recommend that you regularly check for updates on government websites Public Health England and World Health Organisation.

We will continue to keep you updated. In the meantime, if you have any further queries, please contact your regional team – we are here to help.
