Life after Masters Preparation: Juliette’s story

Last month, we spoke with Juliette, who graduated from our Masters Preparation Programme in 2015, to talk about her university studies and discover how she is finding life in London.

Juliette

Juliette, 24 from Belgium, came to Bell Cambridge after completing her undergraduate degree in Communications. She is now studying MSc International Fashion Marketing at Coventry University (London Campus), voted University of the Year 2015 by the Times Higher Education Awards. Currently in her third term, Juliette is enjoying her course so far.

"It’s really good. I’m enjoying the mix of fashion and marketing. I’m working so hard. For example, this summer I will be writing my 12,000 word thesis and interning at Dreyfuss & Co (a luxury watch manufacturer). I’m learning every day and I’m really happy. I love studying in London! Here you have access to a range of exhibitions, which is brilliant for my course, and there are lots of lovely restaurants."

As part of her course, Juliette is combining traditional university studies with workplace experience by interning once a week at Ananas Anam (a sustainable textile manufacturer based in London). She is learning a lot of practical marketing skills in the internship.

"At the moment I’m working on email marketing and customer insight: analysing customer data to find out how we market our products to our audience. The Bell’s Masters Preparation Programme helped to improve my language skills and through Bell I obtained my IELTS score, which was a requirement of the university. On course I also learnt academic skills such as research. Sarah (University Counselling Manager at Bell Cambridge) helped me with my university application. I had to prepare an application letter for Coventry and write two essays, to demonstrate my English level, for another application. Sarah checked through my letter and essays and helped me to understand the application process – giving me the information I needed."

Juliette has great memories of her studies at Bell and spoke fondly of the school: “Bell Cambridge has a really good atmosphere and everyone is so kind to one another!”

After graduation, Juliette aspires to intern for a luxury fashion house:  “I would like to go to Paris for 3 months to do an internship in the luxury fashion sector, such as Chanel. It’s my dream to intern for Chanel!”

Bell is really good and they will help you prepare for your course. I would recommend coming for 2 terms – it will be hard work, but this is enough time for you to improve your language level and prepare for your course. I would also recommend doing an internship in the relevant industry before you start your Masters.

We wish Juliette the best of luck with her upcoming thesis and summer internship!
