Our university pathways tutors have years of experience and top qualifications in their subjects. Many are Oxbridge graduates and have taught at university level.

Ken Bateup, Masters Preparation Tutor

Ken Bateup, Masters Preparation Tutor

Qualifications: B.Ed (Hons) from Bath Spa University, Advanced Diplomas in Art and Science Education, a CELTA and a Delta.

Ken was an IELTS examiner and IELTS Centre Manager at the University of Bath for 12 years and is passionate about helping students achieve their desired IELTS score. He regularly writes learning resources for Bell’s website.

"I enjoy helping students get onto and prepare for the Masters course that they have wanted to join, and then keeping in touch with them during the course to see how they flourish and succeed at an English-speaking university."

 


Ian Chitty, University Foundation Programme Manager

Ian Chitty, University Foundation Programme Manager

Qualifications: BA English and a PGCE from King's College London, a CELTA and a Delta. 

Ian has been teaching since 1979 and has worked at Bell since 1999. In 2015 his research into student peer assessment was published by Cambridge English.

“I enjoy the variety of my role, which involves not just managing the delivery of the University Foundation Programme, but also teaching, helping students with their university applications, and developing teachers.”

David Csernovicz​​​​​​, Business Tutor

Qualifications: BA Tesol and Advanced Spanish, Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics and TESOL, a CELTA and a Delta.

David has held several senior roles in business and has been Managing Director of a logistics company. He was responsible for the regional marketing of the British Council in South America and worked in management for the British Council for 6 years.

David has eight years’ experience teaching Business Studies and has been teaching at Bell for one year.

Qualifications: BA Modern History from the University of Oxford

Peter is the author of 'An Introduction to British Politics' and has taught at Bell for 13 years.

Robert Matthews, Law Tutor

Robert Matthews, Law Tutor

Qualifications: BA History from University of Oxford (Brasenose College) and a CELTA.

Robert is also a qualified barrister and has taught law at Bell for 13 years.

Sarah Pettit, University Counselling Manager

Sarah Pettit, University Counselling Manager

Qualifications: BA (Hons) Modern Languages (French and Spanish) and Postgraduate diploma in European Language and Intercultural Studies from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, and a CELTA.

Sarah has been advising Bell students on higher education for eight years. Before joining Bell, she worked in international student recruitment for University College London and Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.

"One of the most important aspects of my role is to help students identify the right university for them to reach their potential. I provide information, advice and guidance to help students make sense of UK qualifications, to choose the right course at the right university. I pride myself on the independent, impartial advice service that we offer at Bell."


Jane Sealy-Thompson, Academic Skills Tutor

Jane Sealy-Thompson, Academic Skills Tutor

Qualifications: BA English with Writing and Publishing from Middlesex University, MA Applied Linguistics from Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge and a CELTA.

Jane has been teaching English and Business English for 23 years and has 17 years’ experience as a Cambridge examiner.
