Why can't I run the program?

Check that you are online. Check that you have typed in your username and password
correctly
Why does the program take so long to download?
The first time you use Bell English On-line it may take a few minutes to download
but after it is much quicker as the program is kept in your computer's cache
memory. The download time also depends on the speed of your modem but most
of the files are quite small so it should never take more than a minute.
What is Shockwave?
I haven't got Shockwave.
How do I download the Shockwave plug-in?
Shockwave is a plug-in which lets you see the programs that Bell
English On-line is written in. Other plug-ins are for example: Flash
or Authorware. If you already have a shockwave player you may sometimes
be asked if you want to update it. It only takes seconds to do this and
it is done automatically for you so it is a good idea to update when

Why can't I hear the Audio file?
Check if your computer has a soundcard. Check that if you have speakers that
they are turned on. If you don't have speakers, check that you have headphones
plugged in. Check that the volume is loud enough on your headphones or speakers.
What should my security / cookies settings be?
Your security settings should not be set to high and you must not have cookies
disabled. To check your security settings and cookies:

1. Open your browser to any web page
2. Click tools, and then click Internet Options
3. Click the security tab
4. Select any security level except high. -or- Click custom level, scroll Active
sections and click Enable for both options and scroll to the cookies section,
and click Enable for both cookie options.
Internet Explorer 4.x
1. Open your browser to any web page
2. Click View, and then click Internet Options
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. Scroll to the security section
5. Under Active X, click Enable
6. Under cookies, click Always accept cookies.
Do I always have to use the same computer?
No, it doesn't matter which computer you use because the program remembers
your username and Password not which computer you usually access the site
from. Remember - any computer you use will still need the same settings as
the computer you usually access the site from.
What happens when I have registered?
How do I use my Username and Password?
Do I have to register each time I return to Bell English Online?
When you have registered, your Username and Password is sent to you to the
email address you gave when you registered. If you do not receive a Username
or Password it is usually because the email address given has a typing mistake
in it. When you have received your Username and Password, click on the Login
Link and write in your Username and Password where asked and click Login. You
only need to Register with us once.
How do I find out my level?
To find out your level, take the Assessment test. This will suggest the correct
level for you for the Bell English On-line exercises
Is there a CD version of Bell English Online?
No there isn't. At present, there are no plans in the future to make a CD of
Bell English material.
Do I have to register?
If you want to be able to use all of the games and exercises that Bell English
On-line has to offer then you will need to register. However, you can try
our Chutes and Lifts game without
registering if you would like to see the kind of games and exercises that
we can offer.
What do I do if I have forgotten my password?
There are two possibilities. Firstly click on the Forgotten Password link on
the Login page, follow the onscreen instructions and an email will be sent
to you. Or secondly, you can re-register.
Can I print exercises out?
There is no facility to print out exercises from the program. However, you
can use the 'Print Scrn' button on your keyboard and paste the image of your
screen into a Word Processor.
Do I have to be online to use Bell English Online material?
Yes you do. If you try to do the exercises off-line then the audio and image
files will not download.
Do I have to pay anything?
No. Bell English Online is free.
What if I find a word I don't understand?
If you are in the Language Exerciser, click on the Dictionary button, then
click on the word you do not understand and you immediately go to the Cambridge
University On-line Dictionary automatically.
What if I have a language question?
